Oregon: a B5 floor statewide, and Portland going further

Oregon's Renewable Fuel Standard requires that essentially all diesel sold in the state contain at least 5% biodiesel (or renewable diesel), so every diesel pump in Oregon is at least B5. On top of that, the state's Clean Fuels Program — Oregon's version of California's LCFS — rewards suppliers for lower-carbon fuel, which has pulled large volumes of renewable diesel into the market.

Portland goes further. The city's own renewable fuel standard, updated in 2022, ratchets up the required share of biodiesel and renewable diesel in all diesel sold within city limits, reaching 99% by 2030. That's why more than a third of Oregon's listed stations are in Portland. Most are Chevron sites selling a renewable diesel/biodiesel blend; Star Oilco and a few independents serve the long-standing Portland biodiesel community, and Quickway Market in Bend lists B99 in summer.

Tips for Oregon drivers

• I-5 from Portland to Eugene is well covered. East of the Cascades, Bend is the main stop.
• If you want straight renewable diesel (R99) for a B5-limited vehicle, use the AFDC map's Renewable Diesel filter; Oregon has dozens of R99 sites.
