Kansas: long distances, a few good stops

Kansas has a small number of public B20 pumps spread over a very large state: Casey's stores in the eastern third, and the 24/7 Travel Store chain along I-70 through the middle and west (Salina, WaKeeney and beyond), which makes I-70 the one corridor where a biodiesel-minded trucker can cross Kansas without planning. A couple of independent oil jobbers in Topeka and the northeast round out the list.

State policy is aimed at producers rather than retailers — Kansas has offered a per-gallon production incentive for qualified biodiesel producers — so there's no pump-price advantage like the one next door in Iowa or Missouri, and B20 generally tracks regular diesel prices.

Tips for Kansas drivers

• Off I-70 and east of Topeka, check the map before you go; gaps of 100+ miles are normal.
• A few stations list winter blends. Kansas cold snaps are short but sharp, so keep anti-gel on hand from December through February.
